Effective dose (ingestion and inhalation) due to radon from tap water samples in children at primary schools in Najaf city, Iraq

Abstract This study focuses on the evolution of radon concentrations in tap water samples primary schools Najaf city using a RAD-7 detector. Annual effective doses children were calculated. A Geographic Information System technique was used for mapping concentrations, annual dose (AED) ingestion, and inhalation. It found that average value AED due to ingestion 0.236 ± 0.020 μSv/year, while 0.015 0.0001 nSv/year. Moreover, range total μSv/year 0.015–1.171, with an 0.020. Radon most comply world-wide limits are approved by WHO ICRP which state safe (0.5 0.4 Bq/L), respectively. Furthermore, all results inhalation assessment from collected when as drinking within global limitations WHO. One may conclude (7–12 years), there is no danger case human consumption.
